    Board of Governors

    The Board of Governors of Brighton College Al Ain provides guidance on all matters relating to the running of the College. Meetings of the Board of Governors take place each term.

    The Head Master is ultimately responsible for all matters concerned with Brighton College Al Ain and reports to the Board of Governors. With them, he determines the College's direction, sets tone, priorities and standards, appoints staff, is the final arbiter in all matters of discipline, and is the College's figurehead for parents, staff and pupils. He is assisted by the College Leadership Team.

    The College Leadership Team is made up of the Head Master, Head of Junior School and Head of Senior School and the Bursar. The Bursar is responsible to the Board of Governors for all financial aspects of the school, its buildings and estates and other operational and commercial areas.     Ragheed Shanti – Chairman

    Ragheed Shanti, CDir, FIoD, senior advisor to the Board of Directors of National Holding, brings with him over 20 years of banking experience gained with Citicorp, Sumitomo, Merrill lynch and ABN AMRO, serving clients across the Americas, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Ragheed holds an MBA and MS from the University of Texas at Austin and a BSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Leeds, UK.

     

    Ibrahim Al Dabal – Board Member

    Dr. Al Dabal is an internationally recognized expert in the field of drugs, narcotics and toxins and is an accredited consultant to the United Nations, a member of the International Narcotics Control Board and is on the World Assembly of toxins experts. Over the last decade he has headed the Centre for Drug Rehabilitation in Dubai and since 2006 has been working as Director of International Training with Dubai Police on drug awareness, human development and community service. He is a member of the National Committee on Drug Control as well as the Emirates Medical Association. His skills have also been utilized in drafting regulations for the Ministry of Education and he has developed and delivered a variety of training courses for teachers. His connections with young people are reinforced through his work on a range of youth projects as well as being General Coordinator for the Khalifa Empowerment Programme for young Emiratis.He is closely involved in volunteer work locally. He is on the Board of both the Boy Scouts and the Dar El Ber Charity and is also a member of the UAE Red Crescent. Dr Dabal’s achievements and awards are numerous and particularly worthy of note is his award for Academic Excellence from Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid and his work on special projects for Sheikh Saif Al Nahyan.

     

    Saed Arekat – Board Member

    Saed Arekat has been the Chief Financial Officer for Bloom since 2007. Prior to joining Bloom Properties, he was an Executive Manager at Ernst and Young in both the Baghdad and Amman Offices. Saed has considerable experience in the fields of business consulting, external and internal audit, strategic and business planning, due diligence, financial analysis and international taxation. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Birzeit University, Palestine, in addition to certificates in Internal Auditing and Control/Risk Self-Assessment, and is a Certified Public Accountant.

     

    Dr. Shamma Al-Falasi- Board Member

    Dr. Shamma Al-Falasi is the Chair of Social Work Department at the United Arab Emirates University, Al-Ain, UAE She has been serving as an assistant professor at the college of Humanitarian and Social Sciences at the UAEU since 2009. Dr. Shamma holds a Master of Science in Social Administration (MSSA) from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, USA. She also has Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago, IL, USA. Dr. Shamma has many training and social services programs in the UAE. She works as a social consultant for different social organization where she evaluates and designs social programs.

     

    Richard Cairns – Board Member

    Richard Cairns MA (Oxon) FRSA has been the Head Master of Brighton College UK since 2006. He has presided over a hugely successful period in the College’s 168-year history, recording the best GCSE and A-level results of any co-educational school in England. He holds a First Class degree in History from Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Governor of several other schools. He was Tatler’s ‘Headmaster of the Year 2012’. Brighton College was named England’s ‘Independent School of the Year 2011-12′ by the Sunday Times and was awarded the accolade of ‘United Kingdom School of the Year’ at the 2013-14 UK Independent School Awards.

     

    Paul Westbrook – Board Member

    Paul Westbrook joined Brighton College UK in July 2009 from KPMG, where he led the mergers and acquisitions teams. During Paul’s tenure as Bursar, the College has undergone a sustained period of development with the erection of two new 900 square-metre buildings for a state-of-the-art Design & Technology suite and classrooms, a new senior common room and café, and a lower school for Year 7 & 8 pupils. He is also a Governor of the London Academic of Excellence and is the Finance Governor of Handcross Park School, a member of the Brighton College family of schools. Paul is a parent of three Brighton College UK pupils.

     

    The Rt Hon Sir Nicholas Soames, MP – Board Member

    Sir Nicholas Soames is the Member of Parliament for Mid Sussex and a parent at Brighton College UK. Before entering politics Nicholas served in the British Army. He subsequently spent two years on the staff of a Senator in Washington DC and from 1977 onwards he worked in the City of London in the financial services sector. He became a Member of Parliament in 1983, was a Minister at the Ministry of Agriculture and later, between 1993 and 1997, Minister of State for the Armed Forces. He is a Trustee of The Amber Foundation and previously a Member of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and a Trustee of the National Trust. Sir Nicholas is President of the Conservative Middle East Council. He was made a Privy Counsellor in 2011 and Knighted for his political service in 2014. Sir Nicholas is the grandson of Sir Winston Churchill.

     

    Jamal bin Obaid Albah – Board Member

    Jamal bin Obaid Albah has been actively involved with the promotion and development of family advancement, stability and awareness, especially in relation to the Arab Region, working in conjunction with the United Nations, the World Family Organisation as well as the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). He has been the Chairman of the Arabia Family Organisation since 2001 and is also a member of the Board of Directors of the International Federal Organization for Parent Awareness. Jamal has played a large role in organising campaigns pertaining to family issues such as divorce, spinsterhood and family culture, as well as working with the United nations Women Status Committee and the vision of strategic perspectives of the Arab Woman after 2015. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology – Mass Media as well as a Diploma in Psycho-Engineering.

     

    Sameh Muhtadi – Board Member

    Sameh Muhtadi has served as the CEO of Bloom Holding since October 2014. As a real estate investment veteran, Muhtadi carries over 30 years of experience across real estate development, engineering and construction management, strategic planning and financial investment. Prior to joining Bloom Holding, Muhtadi served as a leader at various renowned institutions: Managing Director of Morgan Stanley - Orascom Infrastructure Fund, CEO of Emaar Properties-Misr, and Executive Vice President of Contrack-Orascom. An FSA-certified financial advisor, Muhtadi’s expertise spans a wide range of real estate investment disciplines including PPP investments across the Middle East and Africa. Muhtadi received a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Enfield College, UK, and a Master’s in Construction Management from the George Washington University, USA.
