Junior School Litter Notice (Stop the Drop)

A litter-free school (and of course litter-free routes to school) is a good indicator of a school’s commitment to caring for the environment, which is an important value of sustainable development. It is quite difficult to imagine a school that is conscious about its responsibilities to the environment but allowing litter to go unchallenged. No one likes to be near litter and therefore at Brighton College we are asking everyone to be aware of our surroundings and not drop litter within our private property grounds.

As a responsible community and to raise awareness of helping to keep the UAE clean and tidy, we would kindly like to request that either place any litter into the bins provided, or take it home with you.

Your support in helping us with this important initiative is highly appreciated and we thank you for your continued efforts.

    Road Safety

I am writing to remind you of the essential aspects of road safety. You will have noticed our Senior Leadership Team on duty with our security team in the College car-park at drop-off and pick up times. We are very keen that children and adults are safe and so staff are checking and advising on key safety element, namely:
Seat belts: The use of seat-belts for children and adults. In UAE Law, any persons in the front seat of a vehicle is required to wear a seat-belt. We will always ask that seat-belts are worn at all times and challenge anybody who isn’t wearing one. Please insist that your children buckle up at all times.
Children in the rear of cars: UAE Law states that no children under the age of 10 are allowed to travel in the front of cars. Please insist that your children travel in the rear of the car, wearing a seat-belt.

Car seats: If your child is under 135cms tall, then UAE Law advises that your child uses a car-seat. This is so that, in the event of an accident, your child is safely strapped in and protected.

Mobile-phone use: UAE Law forbids the use of mobile-phones by the driver of any vehicle. Please ensure that you drive safely and refrain from using phones when driving any vehicle, especially when transporting children.

    Winter gifts for support staff

It has become a BCAA tradition to show our thanks to the Security, cleaners and maintenance by presenting them with gifts, before the College closes for the Winter Break. We would like to encourage all pupils and their families to donate a token of their appreciation for the work done by this team who keep our school clean, tidy and safe.
Senior School pupils can give donations to their House Masters/Mistresses and Junior School pupils may hand gifts to Mrs Hassan, the Receptionist. The donations will then be passed on to Mrs Lin Brown, who is co-ordinating this collection. Gift bags for the support staff will then be assembled from these items and presented at the end of term.
A flyer with more information and gifts ideas can be read here. The deadline for donations is Monday 3rd December. Any support that you can lend to this campaign is greatly appreciated and really helps to reinforce our emphasis on respecting and valuing all members of our College community.
